Svenska Skolan i Lissabon is an official Swedish school abroad, in a former villa in Carcavelos, about five minutes’ walk from the sea. It follows the Swedish curriculum for children aged 3 to 12: förskola (3–5), förskoleklass and years 1–6. Teaching is in Swedish, Portuguese is taught, and the site also has pages for Norwegian and Finnish families.
This is a niche choice for Swedish (and other Nordic) families, not an English-medium school. The school is small, with about 90 children, and has a pool in the garden and its own chef. It is run by a parents’ association (förening), and families who qualify can get a Swedish state grant that lowers their fee.
Applications are taken throughout the year, but full-year pupils get priority. The school says it needs to know well in advance if a pupil needs special support, as its support resources are limited, and it cannot take children under 3.
The website is in Swedish. Contact the school coordinator to book a visit.
