IPS Cascais is a British international school in Bicesse, Alcabideche, just inland from Cascais. It began in 1982 as a small primary school and now has around 500 pupils from more than 40 nationalities, according to the school.
Children follow the National Curriculum for England, taught in English, from Nursery at age 3. Secondary pupils work towards IGCSEs, which they sit in Year 11. The first Year 10 group started the IGCSE course in September 2025.
The school has recently opened a new Secondary School building close to the Primary campus. It says A Levels for Years 12 and 13 are coming soon, but its 2026/27 fee list stops at Year 11. If your child is 15 or older, ask which year groups will be open when you arrive.
IPS describes itself as a small, family-feeling school, with typically two classes per year group and a maximum of 24 pupils per class. Portuguese is taught as part of the curriculum, and Dutch lessons are offered within the school day for children with a Dutch- or Flemish-speaking parent.
Admissions are open all year. The steps are an enquiry, a visit or meeting, a registration form with previous school reports, an entry task for your child, and then confirmation of a place. Priority goes to siblings and to children who have mostly been educated in English. The school runs Open Mornings and personal tours but doesn’t publish dates, so book a visit through its website.
IPS is part of Globeducate, an international schools group, and shows the COBIS (Council of British International Schools) member logo on its website.
