The British School of Lisbon follows the English National Curriculum, from Nursery at age 3 to Year 13. Children are placed in year groups by age, just as they would be in the UK.

The school has two campuses: a Primary Campus in central Lisbon near Cais do Sodré, and a Secondary Campus in Restelo. Classes are small, with a maximum of 22 pupils in Primary and Secondary, and lead teachers are UK-qualified.

Admission is selective and teaching is in English, so it suits children who already speak English well. If you’re moving from a UK school, it’s one of the closest matches you’ll find in Lisbon.

The school has a fee page, but no fee figures were shown on it when we checked. The page says tuition includes stationery, learning materials and consumables, but not excursions, uniforms, the school bus or meals.

Questions parents ask

What curriculum does The British School of Lisbon follow?

The English National Curriculum, delivered as it would be in a UK independent school, with small changes for its international setting. Year groups are allocated by age on 1 September, as in the UK.

Does my child need to speak English?

Teaching is in English, and the school says children need a good level of English to succeed. It offers limited language support, and says a child over 10 with no English would typically not be admitted.

Where are the campuses?

The Primary Campus is at Rua São Paulo 89 in central Lisbon, and the Secondary Campus is at Rua de Alcolena 10, in Restelo.

Facts checked on the school's own website on 21 October 2026. Schools update fees and programmes every year, so please confirm details with the school before you apply.
